About this course

Participants develop an etched line drawing on a plate using hard-ground technique, working with varied line depths to describe an image. Aquatint is then introduced to create tonal areas, followed by inking and intaglio printing in black and white and colour. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations, group discussion and one-to-one advice. Participants review and assess their progress through a Learning Statement, with guidance tailored to their technical and critical needs.

What you'll learn

  • Create a line-drawn plate using the hard-ground etching technique
  • Apply aquatint to introduce tonal areas to an etched image
  • Ink and print plates using intaglio methods
  • Use marks to describe tone, line and texture, including through colour printing
  • Operate printmaking equipment and the workshop safely
