About this course
Participants construct collagraph blocks from card and found materials, using collage to investigate surface and texture. They then print these blocks through relief and intaglio methods, working in both colour and black and white. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations and group discussion with individual technical and critical guidance. Learners record and assess their progress through a Learning Statement.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for beginners, with no previous printmaking experience necessary. An interest in, or experience of, drawing or design is essential. Learners with some previous experience may also use the course to renew their knowledge of printmaking techniques. Teaching includes group discussion alongside individual guidance.

Before you go
- Learners should bring small A5 or A6 black-and-white photographic images on a memory stick, accompanying drawings, pencils, a small paintbrush and a sketchbook or notebook.
- Protective clothing, an apron and rubber gloves are required.
- Most studio consumables, including ink, cleaning materials and solvents, are included. Paper, etching plates and lino blocks must be purchased separately from the department.
- Health and safety guidance is provided, and some chemicals may be harmful in pregnancy or cause irritation. Learners should inform the tutor about pregnancy or sensitivities so precautions can be advised.
- The print studio is not wheelchair accessible and is on the second and third floors. Learners with mobility issues should contact the department before enrolling.
