About this course

Participants explore monotype, relief printmaking and the fundamentals of screen printing, taking designs from initial concept through plate or screen preparation to image printing. The course also considers the work of established printmakers and relevant exhibitions and websites. Learning is organised around practical work, tutor feedback and a Personal Learning Plan that helps identify and review individual goals. There may also be opportunities to visit a professional printmaking studio.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improvers with previous printmaking experience who want to revisit and extend their skills. It is not suitable for complete beginners, although no formal qualifications are required. Participation centres on practical printmaking, tutor feedback and individual learning goals.

Before you go

  • Printing inks, printing mediums, emulsions and solvents are included.
  • Participants must provide drawing and preparatory equipment, including a notebook or sketchbook, drawing materials, masking tape, parcel tape and a scalpel.
  • Participants should bring an apron and wear appropriate clothing because printing can be messy. Specialist printmaking papers and paper for class use are available to purchase; any process-specific materials will be confirmed at the first class.
