Printmaking project: summer school intensive

About this course

Beginners are introduced step by step to several printmaking processes, using test plates and experimental image-making before developing their own ideas. More experienced participants can pursue self-directed projects with guidance, extending existing techniques and imagery.

• Etch metal using a range of processes
• Prepare lino and card blocks for relief and intaglio printing
• Prepare paper for printmaking
• Print blocks and plates in monochrome and colour
• Explore personal imagery through different printmaking processes
• Develop printmaking work through more advanced techniques and image development

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for learners at all levels. Beginners follow structured demonstrations and introductory exercises, while intermediate and advanced participants can work on self-directed projects. Learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English, take brief notes and make simple ruler measurements. Basic drawing skills are an advantage.

Before you go

• Basic materials, including inks, standard-quality paper and communal workshop sundries, are covered.
• A limited amount of zinc etching plate can be purchased in class.
• Bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources to use as starting points.
