Printmaking with nature weekend

About this course

The course explores flowers, leaves and sticks as starting points for layered prints. Learners begin with mono printing, experimenting with organic forms, composition and multiple colours, before designing and making a collagraph plate. They then print the plate using intaglio in single and multiple colours, adding a relief roll to produce varied tones and richer colour. Teaching combines demonstrations, visual aids, practical exercises and one-to-one discussion. Learners will also use an etching press to produce mono prints and collagraph prints.

Is this course right for you?

The course is suitable for learners at all levels, including those with no previous printmaking experience. Participation includes following written and verbal instructions, taking part in group discussion and completing simple measurements and calculations.

• No previous experience is necessary
• Learners should be able to follow health and safety guidance
• Group discussion forms part of the course

Before you go

• Dried flowers and leaves should be brought on the first day; some will also be provided.
• Learners may bring a sketchbook or photographs for reference.
• Appropriate clothing and footwear should be worn because the course involves working with inks.
