Recorder ensemble: advanced

About this course

The course explores ensemble repertoire for recorder players working in small consorts, including one-to-a-part playing, and larger groups such as double consorts. Study covers technical fluency, tuning, transposition and stylistic awareness across different instruments in the recorder family. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group playing, individual practice, aural skills, theoretical study and class discussion. The repertoire is approximately Grade 5 to 6 standard.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for advanced recorder players with experience of ensemble playing who want to explore more complex repertoire in smaller groups as well as larger ensembles. Participation includes individual practice, group playing, aural work and class discussion, with written and verbal instructions in English.

Before you go

• Bring your own recorder or recorders.
• Exercises and teaching materials are provided by the tutor.
• The solo or consort music being studied can be borrowed, or bought if preferred.
• A regular practice routine is described as essential, ideally at least 20 minutes per session, four times a week.
• The course can be continued for as many terms as desired, with different repertoire covered each term.
