Recorder ensemble: intermediate

About this course

The course develops recorder ensemble skills through consort playing, with attention to fingering, breathing, articulation, intonation and basic ornamentation such as trills, mordents and turns. Participants work on varied repertoire while improving their ability to listen and respond within an ensemble. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration, playing with the tutor and other participants, individual practice and regular feedback. Music reading and relevant theory are explored through the pieces being played, with learners expected to practise their parts between sessions.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for upper-intermediate recorder players who have studied for at least two years, or for those returning to recorder and wanting to resume consort playing. Participants play with others, follow instructions in English and practise their parts independently between classes.

Before you go

• Participants need to bring their own recorder instrument or instruments.
• A notebook, pencil and eraser are required.
• Music is supplied by the tutor in class and through Google Classroom.
• A regular practice routine is expected, ideally for at least 20 minutes per session, four to five times a week.
