About this course
The course examines how environmental decisions affect people, places and organisations, using six connected themes: working with nature, circular economy, cutting carbon, engaging communities, influencing change and evaluating impact. Participants work in teams on a shared design challenge, applying a systems-based approach through activities such as product tear-downs and carbon mapping. Group discussion and reflection are used to connect these exercises with environmental thinking in design practice.
What you'll learn
- Integrate environmental considerations into the design process
- Analyse connections between environmental decisions, organisations, people and places
- Use product tear-downs and carbon mapping to examine design impacts
- Apply the six interconnected themes of the Skills for Planet Blueprint to a shared design challenge
- Translate environmental considerations into design practice beyond an original brief
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for professionals, graduates and recent design graduates developing their understanding of environmentally responsible design. The improver level suggests learners are developing beyond fundamental design knowledge. Participation includes team-based work, group discussion and reflection.
- Relevant to learners with a foundation in design
- May be less suitable for those without prior design experience
- Covers broad systems-based practice rather than deep technical training in materials selection or lifecycle assessment
