About this course

Participants rehearse as a recorder ensemble, working on music for different instrument combinations across Renaissance repertoire and later arrangements. The course combines playing with exercises in breath control, articulation and historically informed style, including ornamentation. Basic musical theory is introduced to help participants understand the works, while sessions address both the overall ensemble sound and individual parts. The repertoire and pace are adapted to the group, with learners able to suggest pieces. Recordings and rehearsal sound files are available through TEAMS.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for intermediate recorder players who can read music to a good standard, including sight-reading, and are familiar with at least one recorder size or key. It also accommodates players returning to the instrument after a break. Participation involves learning and performing as part of an ensemble, with a tutor assessment or interview required.

• The course is for learners aged 19 or over on 31 August before the course starts.
