About this course

This class develops rhythm tap through warm-ups, dynamic exercises and the exploration of new steps and combinations set to varied music. Participants work on rhythm, musicality and improvisation techniques, then build and rehearse a short routine across the course. Performance techniques are explored through cross-art and peer collaboration, with opportunities to perform. Weekly five-minute routine-recap videos support practice between classes.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for experienced tap dancers who have developed higher-level rhythm tap skills through Rhythm Tap 3 or equivalent higher-level classes elsewhere. It involves practical dancing, improvisation, routine rehearsal and collaboration. A good level of fitness is required, and movement adjustments can be made for particular physical or learning needs.

Before you go

  • Bring tap shoes and loose-fitting, supportive clothing suitable for movement.
  • A weekly five-minute routine-recap video is provided to support practice.
  • Photography and filming may be used for learning and publicity; learners can consent to or decline being recorded.
  • Those who are pregnant, have serious health concerns or have a history of injury are advised to consult a doctor and inform the tutor about any activities they have been advised to avoid.
