About this course
The course traces India’s modern history from independence to the Modi era, then considers the condition of Indian democracy, domestic social and economic challenges, environmental issues and foreign policy. Teaching combines lectures supported by PowerPoint presentations with discussion in larger and smaller groups. The course places recent history alongside current political and international developments, including India’s relationships with neighbouring countries and the wider world.

The course is intended for learners at all levels, with a good standard of English required. Previous background knowledge of India and global affairs may be useful but is not essential. Participation involves listening to differing views and contributing to discussions in larger and smaller groups.
