RJS – Jazz Improvisation Workshop

About this course

The workshop uses standard jazz tunes and arrangements to develop instrumental technique, jazz theory, improvisation, repertoire and ensemble performance. Participants work in groups of different sizes, building course material together and applying it in practical playing sessions. The course also addresses practice routines and strategies. Individual goals are identified, with progress considered through practical class work and reflection rather than formal assessment. Performance opportunities may include college sessions, local venues and concerts.

Is this course right for you?

This Improver-level workshop is intended for musicians who already have some experience playing in an ensemble. Knowledge of jazz theory may be useful, while sight reading is advantageous but not required. Participants set individual goals and take part in practical group work, with no formal assessment.
