About this course

The workshop develops jazz playing through ensemble work on standards, contemporary pieces and occasional original material. Participants work with written music, playing by ear, chord understanding, scales and jazz theory, alongside rhythmic development and extended jamming. Teaching combines structured activities with flexible musical exploration. Learners share ideas, compose, and receive tutor-led group and individual feedback. The course also provides opportunities to lead a tune or develop a solo within the ensemble.

• Read and interpret musical material while also learning tunes by ear

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for instrumentalists and singers at improver level who have developed a good standard on their instrument or voice. Participants work collaboratively as an ensemble, while also receiving individual feedback and taking on roles such as leading a tune or developing a solo. Basic music reading is required.
