RJS – Jazz Workshop 3

About this course

The workshop develops jazz performance through ensemble playing, with participants exploring jazz standards, contemporary tunes and funk-influenced repertoire. Sessions combine reading music, playing by ear, chord and scale work, rhythmic development and jamming techniques. Participants practise improvisation, explore different approaches to ensemble music-making and compose in a group setting. Informal tutor-led and individual feedback are used throughout, alongside a Personal Learning Plan to help focus learning goals and monitor progress.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for musicians developing beyond fundamental playing skills. Participants should have some experience on their instrument, be able to read music to at least a basic standard, and be prepared to work as part of an ensemble. Instrumentalists and singers are welcome.

Before you go

• Participants should bring their own instruments.
• Backline equipment is provided where required.
