RJS – Rhythm Section Workshop

About this course

The workshop develops instrumental technique, jazz theory, ensemble playing, improvisation and a repertoire of standard tunes. Participants work in changing group sizes and combinations, applying arrangements in practical classes focused on rhythm-section performance. Teaching includes tutor feedback, individual goal-setting and reflection on development. The course also covers practice routines and strategies, with possible opportunities to take part in jam sessions and other performances.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for piano, guitar, bass and drum players at beginner to lower-intermediate level. Participants work in groups and are expected to engage with practical ensemble playing. Some jazz theory knowledge is useful, while sight reading is advantageous but not required.
