About this course
Participants develop performance skills within the rock and pop idiom through tutor-led explanations, analytical listening and group discussion. They plan and evaluate songs in lead-sheet form, use workshop recordings to review rehearsal and individual practice techniques, and examine the stylistic boundaries of a selected genre. The course also focuses on generating and developing musical ideas collectively, building the technical knowledge needed to present them in a live performance setting, and working towards shared creative goals.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for intermediate players who have been playing their chosen instrument for at least three years. Participation involves group rehearsal, discussion and collaborative musical decision-making, with an open-minded approach to exploring different styles within a genre.
- Previous playing experience on the chosen instrument is required.
- Learners should be prepared to work towards shared creative goals in a band setting.
Before you go
- Bring your instrument. A drum kit and guitar amplifiers are provided.
- Bring leads if required for the instrument.
- Bring a notebook, preferably with A4 manuscript paper, and a pencil.
