Roof Construction

About this course

Participants construct a complete roof, including a hip, gable end, dormer and Velux window. The course covers setting out the plate level, calculating roof pitch, and using gauges to measure and cut roof timbers accurately. Teaching also introduces the tools, gauges and fixing techniques used in roof construction. The practical work is supported by advice on construction methods and trade techniques, with opportunities to discuss a specific building project or set of plans.

This course is intended for improver-level learners and involves sustained practical work constructing roof elements. Carpentry skills may be helpful, but the source does not present them as essential. Learners with a particular project or building plans can discuss them during the course.
