About this course
The course explores how recorded and existing sounds can be shaped into loops, musical phrases and layered drum instruments. Participants also work with quantising, velocity, swing, shuffle, drum replacement and layering to alter the feel and definition of beats. Synthesiser work covers components, signal flow and programming for sounds such as string pads, basses and electronic percussion. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, explanations and class discussion with practical work on individual projects, including presentation of work in progress for feedback.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for beginner-level learners with basic computer skills. Participants should be able to manage files and applications, use a mouse and keyboard, browse the internet, read simple instructions in English and contribute to basic discussions. The format involves individual project work, class discussion and sharing work in progress for feedback.

- Class work takes place on individual Mac workstations running Logic or GarageBand.
