About this course

The course introduces French through selected coursebook material, systematic work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, and regular communication in French. Participants practise greetings, personal information, directions, descriptions and everyday conversations through speaking tasks, role-plays and pair or group activities. Cultural context includes French greetings, café and brasserie culture, and the diversity of the Francophone world. The teacher adapts the selection and sequence of material to the group while speaking French throughout lessons, using visual support and gestures to aid understanding.

What you'll learn

• Introduce yourself and exchange basic personal information, including nationality, profession and languages
• Ask for and give directions, describe places and discuss means of transport
• Talk about family, hobbies, likes and dislikes in simple French
• Use être, avoir, aller and faire in everyday present-tense communication
• Form basic questions and negatives using common French structures
