What Pre-intermediate (A2+) French means
At A2+ French, learners can connect simple sentences, give reasons and manage a wider range of familiar situations.

About this course
This course develops French beyond basic present-tense communication, with particular attention to the imparfait, its relationship with the passé composé, pronouns, extended use of key verbs, and comparisons. Vocabulary and cultural themes include health, medical situations, cooking, regional cuisine, experiences and memories. Lessons combine selected coursebook material with conversations, role-plays, speaking tasks, pair and group work, and cultural exploration. The teacher speaks French throughout, while pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, listening and longer spoken and written communication are practised together.
What you'll learn
- Combine the passé composé and imparfait when narrating past events and describing past habits.
- Use indirect object pronouns, y and en, and extended forms of devoir, pouvoir and vouloir.
- Discuss health, describe symptoms and make an appointment in French.
- Talk in greater detail about food, cooking, regional cuisine and eating habits.
- Understand and produce longer stretches of spoken and written French.
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for learners who have completed an earlier A1 French course or studied approximately 70–80 hours of French. The pre-intermediate A2+ label indicates development beyond fundamental language skills. Participation includes regular speaking, pair and group activities, and a relatively fast pace rather than gradual progression through one level at a time.
- Previous French study is expected, including familiarity with the present tense and some passé composé.
- Suitable for learners who want an accelerated format covering three course levels.
- Class participation includes conversations, role-plays and pair or group work.
- The course may be less suitable for learners who prefer a slower, more gradual pace.
Before you go
- The course uses Mon Alter Ego 2, which learners need from the second lesson onwards.
- Learners are recommended to complete 1–2 hours of self-study per week using suggested coursebook or workbook exercises and other resources.
