About this course
The course develops Italian beyond basic communication, with particular attention to the imperfetto and its contrast with the passato prossimo. Participants work on pronouns, piacere and similar verbs, comparatives and superlatives, while exploring health, food, cooking, memories and regional cuisine. Lessons combine selected coursebook material with conversations, role-plays, speaking tasks and pair or group work. Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are taught alongside communication, with the teacher speaking Italian throughout. Cultural themes include attitudes to health and wellbeing and the place of food in Italian culture.
What you'll learn
- Narrate past events using the passato prossimo and imperfetto in combination
- Describe past situations and compare former habits with the present
- Discuss health, describe symptoms and arrange a medical appointment in Italian
- Talk in greater detail about food, recipes and eating habits
- Understand and produce longer stretches of spoken and written Italian
Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for learners who have already completed A1 Italian or studied around 70–80 hours. The pre-intermediate level indicates development beyond fundamental language, while the concentrated format involves regular speaking, pair and group activities, and a faster pace than standard courses.
- Suitable for learners progressing from Fast Track Beginner 3, Italian Level 8 or comparable study
- May suit learners returning to Italian after studying it at school or in another context
- The programme covers material at a faster pace than courses taken one level at a time
Before you go
- The course uses the Dieci A2 coursebook, which learners need from the second lesson onwards.
- The provider recommends 1–2 hours of self-study each week, using suggested coursebook, workbook or online exercises.
