What Pre-intermediate (A2+) Spanish means

At A2+ Spanish, learners can connect simple sentences, give reasons and manage a wider range of familiar situations.

  • Explain a preference

I prefer travelling by train because it is more comfortable and I can read.

  • Handle a small problem

La habitación está muy fría. ¿Podrían revisar la calefacción?

The room is very cold. Could you check the heating?

  • Describe an experience

El año pasado visité Sevilla y me encantó la arquitectura.

Last year I visited Seville and loved the architecture.

These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.

About this course

The course develops Spanish for discussing past events, memories, health, sport, physical wellbeing and personal history. Grammar work covers the pretérito indefinido, pretérito imperfecto and pretérito perfecto, alongside comparatives, superlatives and indirect object pronouns. Vocabulary includes childhood, appearance and lifestyle habits, with cultural context relating to the Spanish-speaking world. Teaching combines selected coursebook material with conversations, speaking tasks, pair and group work, role-plays and pronunciation practice. The teacher delivers lessons in Spanish and adapts the choice and order of material to the group’s pace and needs.

What you'll learn

  • Narrate completed and recent past events using the pretérito indefinido and pretérito perfecto
  • Describe past states, routines and experiences using the pretérito imperfecto
  • Distinguish between key Spanish past tenses in relevant contexts
  • Compare people, places and things using comparatives and superlatives
  • Discuss health, physical wellbeing, sport and lifestyle habits in Spanish

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners who have completed A1 Spanish or studied approximately 70–80 hours. The Pre-intermediate (A2+) label indicates a stage beyond fundamental beginner work. Lessons involve regular speaking, pair and group activities, role-plays and a relatively fast, structured pace.

  • Previous Spanish study is expected, such as completion of Beginner 3 or Spanish Level 6
  • The course may suit learners who want to progress through material at a faster pace
  • Learners preferring a slower, more gradual pace may find the format less suitable

Before you go

  • The course uses Aula Internacional Plus A2, which learners need from the second lesson onwards.
  • Learners are recommended to complete 1–2 hours of self-study each week using suggested coursebook, workbook or online exercises.
