About this course
The course develops screen performance through character work, script analysis, subtext, audition technique and responding to direction. Participants explore vocal and movement techniques for camera, including stillness, breathing, vocal clarity, composition and blocking across different shot types. Teaching combines individual exercises, collaborative rehearsals, filmed scenes, playback analysis and industry masterclasses. Participants also work together on a short film project, applying screen acting techniques in a production setting and receiving feedback on their performances.
What you'll learn
- Analyse scripts for subtext, motivation, units and beats
- Develop characters using objectives, backstory and approaches associated with Stanislavski, Meisner and Uta Hagen
- Apply vocal, movement, stillness and blocking techniques for camera
- Prepare and perform self-tapes and in-person auditions
- Adapt performances in response to direction and different screen styles
- Use film-set terminology and work collaboratively on a short film
Is this course right for you?
The course is open to complete beginners as well as learners with previous acting experience who want to develop screen skills. The programme involves both individual and collaborative work, filmed projects and preparation outside class, including rehearsing scenes, learning lines and researching roles.
- No audition or selection process is required
- Teaching is conducted in English
- Regular preparation outside class is expected
Before you go
- Comfortable clothing suitable for movement work is requested.
- Participants should bring a notebook, water bottle and necessary personal items.
- Scripts and filming equipment are provided.
- The course includes a professional headshot session.
- The collaborative short film is edited and delivered within 2 to 4 weeks after the course.
- Regular class footage is reviewed for educational feedback but is not provided to participants.
