Screen printing studio projects

About this course

The course develops screen-printing skills across paper and textile applications. Participants explore experimental methods using found objects and artwork, create photo stencils, and work with single-colour prints, photographic halftones and layered colour. The course also considers different inks, contemporary uses of screen printing and the distinction between textile and paper printing. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, set tasks, examples of contemporary practice, one-to-one guidance, group work and independent development through personal projects. Optional homework is available for extending ideas and research between sessions.

What you'll learn

• Explain the screen-printing process from preparing artwork through to printing.
• Prepare artwork for printing with photo stencils and found objects.
• Apply creative screen-printing techniques to paper, textiles and other supported surfaces.
• Use different inks and layered colours in screen prints.
• Create and interpret halftone patterns for screen printing.
• Develop and produce a personal screen-printed project.

Is this course right for you?

The course is open to first-time screen printers as well as experienced printmakers who want to extend their knowledge. A beginner label indicates an introductory level, while the teaching allows for both group activities and independent development through personal projects.

• No previous Graphic Arts or Printmaking experience is required.
• Participation includes group work alongside independent project development.
• Optional homework tasks are available between sessions.
