About this course

The workshop introduces several approaches to silkscreen printing through demonstrations and guided instruction. Participants prepare artwork from drawn, found or digital sources, make paper and other stencils, coat screens with photosensitive emulsion, and expose and develop imagery. Practical work covers printing on paper and other surfaces, mixing and manipulating ink, monoprinting, registration and overprinting. Participants can combine hand-drawn, photographic and digital imagery to produce prints using different screen-printing methods and colour layers.

What you'll learn

  • Apply and manipulate ink through colour mixing, opacity changes, layering and monoprinting
  • Coat screens with photosensitive emulsion and expose imagery from direct-contact, hand-drawn and digital sources
  • Create two-colour stencils using direct-stencil and registration techniques
  • Prepare and develop artwork for screen printing on paper and other surfaces
  • Adapt screen-printing methods to explore different combinations of imagery and colour
