Sculpting identity: create work inspired by your story

About this course

Participants explore identity and personal expression through sculptural work, beginning with clay facial sculpture and a mask inspired by thoughts or memories. Ideas can develop into finished pieces using materials such as wood, wire, plaster, cement, wax, paper and mixed media. The course introduces modelling, carving, casting and mould-making through demonstrations, hands-on practice, individual tuition, group discussion and independent project work. Learners identify their aims with the tutor, receive ongoing feedback and share their outcomes at the end. Both exploratory and concept-led approaches are accommodated.

Is this course right for you?

The course is suitable for complete beginners and for learners with some sculptural experience who want to extend their practice. Participation combines tutor demonstrations, individual guidance, group discussion and self-directed project work. Teaching is adapted to different experience levels, learning styles and creative aims, with learners working at their own pace.

• Clay must be purchased through the college and is charged by weight.
