About this course

Participants develop a series of jewellery pieces and components using wax, alginate and silicone moulds, jesmonite, found objects and electroforming. Activities include carving, pouring and constructing complex wax forms, creating open moulds, preparing objects for electroforming, and finishing and assembling mixed-material components with cold connections and fastenings. Teaching combines discussions and demonstrations of processes, materials and technical solutions with time to apply them. Learners are encouraged to develop an individual theme while considering the design possibilities and technical constraints of their work.

What you'll learn

  • Create open alginate and silicone moulds and compare their uses and limitations
  • Carve, pour and construct wax components for jewellery and small objects
  • Prepare wax and found objects for the electroforming process
  • Apply cold-connection principles when combining mixed materials
  • Follow health and safety procedures for the materials and techniques used
