About this course
The workshop explores small- to medium-scale sculpture in air-dry clay and plaster. Participants develop forms using clay slabs, rolls and direct modelling, including a figurative bust and a bas relief plaque. The course also covers wire, wire mesh and plaster-bandage armatures, liquid plaster construction, mould making and casting. Techniques include reverse clay sculpture and using balloons as flexible moulds for plaster. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, practical activities and individual feedback, with projects including clay originals, plaster moulds and cast forms.
What you'll learn
- Construct small to medium-sized armatures using wire, wire mesh and plaster bandage.
- Model air-dry clay into a stylised figurative bust using paper templates and clay processes.
- Create a clay bas relief plaque and produce a plaster mould and positive cast.
- Build an abstract sculpture in liquid plaster over a supporting armature.
- Apply reverse clay sculpture and flexible balloon mould techniques to organic plaster forms.
