About this course
Participants develop or adapt a garment, working from a commercial pattern or refitting an existing piece. The course covers selecting an appropriate pattern size, adjusting patterns to measurements, arranging pattern pieces and cutting fabric, followed by guided garment construction. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical sessions, questions and answers, and individual project guidance. Techniques include applied pockets, waistbands, fastenings, buttons and buttonholes, overlocking for seam finishes, and project-specific sewing processes.
What you'll learn
- Adapt a commercial pattern to suit individual measurements and proportions
- Plan and carry out the stages of producing a fitted garment
- Construct and attach applied pockets, waistbands and fastenings
- Mark and sew buttons and buttonholes
