Sewing essentials: learn to sew trousers

A practical beginner-level studio course covering trouser construction, including waistbands, pockets, seams and fastening techniques.
About this course
Participants construct a pair of trousers from pre-cut fabric, working through the garment-making process in stages. Sessions cover the assembly of key components, including waistbands, pockets and seams, alongside techniques such as inserting a fly-front zip, making buttonholes and sewing buttons by hand. Teaching combines demonstrations, guided exercises, practice-led making and individual feedback. Informal assessment takes place throughout the project as learners develop their garment and apply sewing-machine techniques with greater control.
