About this course

Learners bring an existing sewing project to develop, such as garment alterations, complex pattern work or garments made from finer fabrics. The tutor helps assess each idea, identify requirements and create a work plan for the sessions. Teaching combines demonstrations, workshop practice, individual guidance and group discussion. Projects may involve fitting, cutting and sewing, with support focused on the learner’s chosen area. Additional tasks may be set for completion outside class.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for experienced sewers, including those progressing from previous sewing study or equivalent experience. Learners should be able to use a sewing machine confidently, follow written and verbal guidance, and take part in group discussions. The format combines individual project work with shared teaching and demonstrations.

Before you go

• Basic materials and resources are available. Learners should bring their own project and any items needed to complete it, such as fabric, zips and thread; requirements can be discussed in the first session.
• Bring a notebook and pen, plus a small folder or plastic sleeve for handouts.
• Google Classroom provides access to course materials, presentations and handouts, and may be used for learner progress records. Access details are sent in advance.
