About this course

Participants develop a short-film idea through planning, pitching and scripting, while learning film language such as shot descriptions and camera movement. The course also examines the main stages of production and introduces established editing techniques in DaVinci Resolve. Teaching combines workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance, and handouts. Work between classes is encouraged to help participants practise techniques and continue developing their film project.

The course is intended for beginners who are comfortable learning at a fast pace. Basic computer skills are expected, including opening applications, navigating, and opening and saving files. Participants are expected to work both individually and with others during class.

  • Professional filmmaking equipment and software are available for use during class.
  • A memory stick or portable hard drive may be useful for saving work.

  • Course tasks, notes and resources are stored in Google Classroom, which participants need to access before each session.
