About this course

Participants develop an original short film from initial concept through to a finished edit, working collaboratively across the main production roles. The course covers scriptwriting, storyboarding, shot lists and production scheduling before moving into directing actors, camera operation, composition, manual settings, lighting and sound recording.

What you'll learn

  • Develop an original short-film concept and collaborative script
  • Create a storyboard, shot list and production schedule
  • Operate Blackmagic 4K and 6K cinema cameras using manual settings
  • Direct actors and guide performances
  • Apply basic lighting and sound-recording techniques
  • Edit a completed film and prepare it for screenings or festivals

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for complete beginners and learners with some experience who want to develop their filmmaking skills. It involves collaborative work with classmates, rotating through key crew roles and contributing to a shared film production.

  • No previous filmmaking experience is required
  • Participants work as part of a collaborative crew
  • Learners take on different production roles during the project

Before you go

  • Cameras, lighting equipment, sound equipment and editing facilities are provided.
  • Participants may use their own kit if they prefer.
  • Professional actors are provided for the film project.
  • The completed short film can be taken away for portfolio use or online sharing.
