About this course

The course introduces fundamental jewellery-making processes, including piercing, filing, drilling, texturing, annealing, forming, soldering and polishing. Demonstrations and handouts are combined with individual practice, while teaching is provided both to the group and through one-to-one guidance. Learners with existing experience can use the sessions to develop current skills, explore additional techniques and work on individual jewellery projects. Beginners focus on establishing a foundation in the core processes used to make silver jewellery.

Before you go

• All tools and equipment needed for jewellery making are supplied.
• Materials for the first session are provided.
• After the first session, learners need to supply their own metal and sundries such as saw blades; the tutor will advise on requirements and sourcing.
• A sketchbook is encouraged for notes, handouts, images and designs.
• Closed shoes must be worn for health and safety reasons.
