About this course
The course introduces the main processes used in silver jewellery making, with demonstrations followed by individual practice. Beginners work through foundational techniques including piercing, filing, drilling, texturing, annealing, forming, soldering and polishing. Learners with previous experience can use the sessions to develop existing skills, explore additional techniques and work on individual projects. Teaching combines whole-group instruction with guidance tailored to each participant’s work.

The course is intended for learners at all levels, from beginners developing foundational jewellery-making techniques to those with previous experience who want to extend their skills. Sessions combine group teaching with individual guidance, allowing participants to work on their own projects where appropriate.
Before you go
- Tools and equipment for jewellery making are supplied.
- Materials for the first session are provided. After that, participants need to supply their own metal and sundries such as saw blades.
- The tutor will advise during the first session on materials and where to obtain them.
- A sketchbook is encouraged for notes, handouts, images and designs.
- Closed shoes must be worn for health and safety reasons.
