About this course

Participants develop jewellery-making techniques using metals including silver, bronze, brass and copper. The course covers sawing, soldering, hammering, texturing, polishing, stone setting and enamelling, with ring-making as a specific project focus. Learners also plan and make their own jewellery pieces with guidance from the tutor. Progress is reviewed through verbal feedback during the course, with no formal assessment.

What you'll learn

  • Apply sawing, soldering, hammering, texturing and polishing techniques to jewellery projects
  • Shape and manipulate silver, bronze, brass and copper
  • Construct a ring using metalwork and finishing techniques
  • Create settings and securely set cabochon stones
  • Design and make individual jewellery pieces with tutor guidance

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for intermediate-level learners developing their jewellery-making skills through increasingly independent project work. Participants work on their own pieces while receiving guidance and verbal feedback from the tutor.

  • Suitable for learners seeking continued development beyond fundamental jewellery-making techniques
  • Includes individual project work rather than formal assessment

Before you go

  • The course fee covers basic materials, but learners need to buy additional materials such as silver; the cost depends on the materials selected.
  • Learners should bring a notebook, pencil and apron.
  • Some tools can be borrowed, although learners are advised to build their own tool collection with guidance from the tutor.
  • Learners should allow time at the end of class to tidy the studio.
