About this course

The class introduces a traditional ballet structure, moving from barre exercises to centre work. Learners practise steps and enchaînements through tutor demonstrations, verbal explanations, repetition and guided movement patterns, with feedback provided individually and as a group. Work focuses on classical technique, safe physical use, posture, alignment, musicality and the flow and expression of movement. Sessions can be attended in the studio or live-streamed via Microsoft Teams, with recordings available for home practice. Learners can also discuss their work with the tutor and other students, supported by digital resources such as film and photography.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for older learners of any ability, including complete novices, those with limited previous experience and experienced dancers. It is a practical class involving physical activity, and learners should have a basic level of fitness and mobility. Exercises can be adapted to particular physical or learning needs.

Before you go

  • Wear a leotard or close-fitting top with tights, leggings or close-fitting tracksuit bottoms.
  • Ballet shoes and suitable dance support are required.
  • Bring a bottle of water, notebook and pen.
  • The tutor can adapt exercises and activities for particular physical or learning needs. Learners should discuss any advised physical restrictions with the tutor and consult a doctor about serious health conditions or a history of injury.
  • Photography and filming may be used to support learning and for college publicity. Learners can give or decline consent.
