About this course

The class introduces jewellery-making processes including soldering silver and copper, constructing rings, pendants, chains, fittings and bangles, and setting stones. Learners apply these techniques to their own jewellery designs while developing a professional approach to the stages of making. Beginners can work alongside intermediate and advanced participants, with more technical instruction available for those with greater experience. The tutor also covers sources for metals, stones and equipment.

  • Participants need to be able to stand and use workshop equipment safely.

  • Participants need to buy some tools for their own use.
  • Copper and silver are required for projects and can be bought at the Institute.
  • Participants need to purchase stones for projects.
  • The tutor provides information about required purchases in the first session.
