About this course
This course uses selected Rodgers and Hart songs as material for developing individual interpretations. Sessions combine tutor and pianist demonstrations with class practice, observation, discussion, feedback and active listening. Learners work on vocal technique, warm-ups and vocal style, then apply phrasing, improvisation, emotional connection and lyric subtext to the chosen repertoire. The format alternates group singing with solo work, allowing participants to practise the songs and consider interpretive choices in class.
What you'll learn
- Use a constructive vocal warm-up when practising.
- Apply vocal technique and style to selected songs.
- Shape phrasing and interpret the subtext of lyrics.
- Improvise within and develop individual interpretations of chosen songs.
Is this course right for you?
The course is open to singers at all levels, but the source indicates that participants should have enough experience and skill to work with and deliver the song material. It combines group singing, solo work, observation, discussion, feedback and active listening, so learners should expect to contribute both individually and within the class.
- Weekly song-preparation homework is set for the following session.
