Singing Lessons Level 4

About this course

The course develops advanced vocal technique through breathing exercises, warm-ups and work on articulation, intonation, tone, rhythm, pace and register changes. Participants explore head and chest voice across high and low ranges, applying these approaches to repertoire spanning classical, opera, foreign-language art songs, pop, musical theatre and jazz. Teaching combines group singing with solo masterclasses. Sessions include harmony and ensemble work, individual performances, characterisation, storytelling, diction and musical interpretation. The course also considers music history and the context in which different repertoire developed.

What you'll learn

• Adapt vocal production across register changes using head and chest voice in higher and lower ranges.
• Apply advanced breathing exercises and vocal warm-ups to articulation, intonation, rhythm, tone and breath control.
• Interpret repertoire from classical, opera, foreign-language art song, pop, musical theatre and jazz traditions.
• Use diction, pace and rhythmic freedom in solo singing, including elements of jazz style.
• Develop characterisation and storytelling within musical performance.
• Sing ensemble repertoire using harmonies and informed musical choices.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for experienced singers at an advanced level, particularly those who have completed Singing Level 3 or an equivalent course. Participation includes group singing, harmony work and solo masterclasses, with confidence in solo singing and the ability to sing from memory expected. Learners also need to hear notes and sing them back, alongside good spoken and written English.

• Previous singing experience and an understanding of the voice are required.
