Singing Technique Workshop

An intermediate singing workshop using guided vocal exercises and song studies to develop technique across soprano, alto, tenor and bass ranges.
About this course
The workshop examines breath support, resonance, alignment, diction and balance between vocal registers. Soprano and alto participants explore head voice, chest voice and bridging exercises, while tenor and bass participants work with full voice, falsetto, mixed voice and the passaggio. Sessions also address larynx position, jaw and tongue tension, vowel modification and reducing strain when singing higher notes. Teaching combines demonstration, repetition, vocal exercises and selected song studies. Repertoire is adapted to the two voice-group formats, with most work taking place as a group and brief individual opportunities for feedback.
What you'll learn
- Identify and apply techniques for balancing head, chest, mixed, full and falsetto registers.
- Practise transitions between registers using bridging exercises and passaggio work.
- Use breath support, alignment and resonance techniques without pushing the voice.
- Apply vowel modification and manage larynx, jaw and tongue position when singing higher notes.
- Use vocal techniques in selected songs across contemporary, musical theatre and popular repertoire.
Is this course right for you?
The workshop is intended for experienced adult singers, including people who sing in choirs, bands or as soloists. Its Intermediate level suggests work beyond fundamental vocal exploration. Participation is mainly group-based, with short individual opportunities for feedback rather than pressured solo performance.
- Choose between the Soprano/Alto and Tenor/Bass version according to vocal range.
- No music-reading ability is required, as exercises are taught by demonstration and repetition.
Before you go
- Comfortable clothing and water are requested.
- A notebook may be brought, but it is optional.
- Written materials, sheet music or lyrics may be provided as support.
- Participants may bring a song they know if invited by the tutor.
