About this course

The course develops SketchUp Pro techniques for producing more detailed 3D visualisations. Participants work with Sandbox tools to create complex and organic forms, adjust textures for colour and translucency, and use Photomatch images to place projects in context. The course also introduces Podium for rendering models with greater photorealism, alongside methods for viewing models from different angles and saving scenes for video files. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical exercises, hand-outs, discussions and guidance on personal projects. Learners receive both group and individual assistance, with tasks and resources stored in Google Classroom.

What you'll learn

  • Create detailed 3D spaces and more complex objects in SketchUp Pro
  • Use Sandbox tools to develop organic and complex forms
  • Edit materials to introduce colour, transparency and pattern
  • Apply Photomatch images to place projects in their surroundings
  • Render completed models using the Podium extension

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners with previous SketchUp Pro experience, including those who have completed a SketchUp Pro beginners course. The intermediate label indicates work beyond fundamental techniques. Participants should be able to follow written and spoken instructions, take part in group discussions, and carry out simple measurements and calculations.

  • Not intended as a first course in SketchUp Pro
  • Requires confidence with basic computer use and a mouse
  • Combines group discussion with individual guidance on personal projects

Before you go

  • Apple computers and the latest software are available for use during the course.
  • A memory stick or portable hard drive may be useful for storing work; PC-formatted drives can be read but not written to by Apple Mac computers.
  • Learners need to log in to Google Classroom before each session to access tasks, notes and resources.
