About this course
The course examines paintings by Velázquez, Goya and Sorolla alongside the historical and artistic movements associated with their work. Learners discuss artworks linked to the periods of Felipe IV, the Peninsular War and the emergence of naturalistic painting, with a gallery visit in the final session to view some of the pieces studied. Each session combines cultural and historical content with spoken Spanish practice. Activities include pair and group work, role plays, games and discussion, supported by presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources. Language work reviews past tenses and ways of forming hypotheses about the past, present and future.
