What Advanced (C1+) Spanish means

At C1+ Spanish, learners can express complex ideas precisely, understand nuance and adapt their language to different contexts.

  • Qualify an argument

Si bien el argumento resulta convincente en términos generales, pasa por alto varias consecuencias imprevistas.

While the argument is broadly convincing, it overlooks several unintended consequences.

  • Convey nuance

No me opongo a la propuesta en sí; lo que cuestiono es la forma precipitada de aplicarla.

I do not oppose the proposal itself; what I question is the rushed way it is being implemented.

  • Adapt your register

Le agradecería que reconsiderara la decisión a la luz de la información adicional adjunta.

I would be grateful if you would reconsider the decision in light of the additional information attached.

These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.

About this course

The course uses spoken interaction to explore media, leisure, the environment, literature, and Spanish and Latin American cultures. Learners follow news from Spanish-language media and take part in discussions and debates on cultural, social and political topics, including subjects chosen for particular interest to the group. Pair work, group activities, role-play, games, presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources support the lessons. Work with dialogues and newspaper articles develops listening and reading comprehension, while extended discussion provides opportunities to use a broader range of Spanish vocabulary.

What you'll learn

  • Express opinions and ideas using a wider range of Spanish vocabulary
  • Extract specific information from spoken dialogues
  • Identify detailed information in newspaper articles
  • Discuss cultural, social and political topics in Spanish
