What Advanced (C1+) Spanish means

At C1+ Spanish, learners can express complex ideas precisely, understand nuance and adapt their language to different contexts.

  • Qualify an argument

Si bien el argumento resulta convincente en términos generales, pasa por alto varias consecuencias imprevistas.

While the argument is broadly convincing, it overlooks several unintended consequences.

  • Convey nuance

No me opongo a la propuesta en sí; lo que cuestiono es la forma precipitada de aplicarla.

I do not oppose the proposal itself; what I question is the rushed way it is being implemented.

  • Adapt your register

Le agradecería que reconsiderara la decisión a la luz de la información adicional adjunta.

I would be grateful if you would reconsider the decision in light of the additional information attached.

These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.

About this course

The course develops more precise Spanish for discussing possibilities, alternatives and solutions. Learners practise negotiating, making suggestions and explaining options in social and workplace situations, while extending their ability to express detailed opinions. Cultural topics including film, music, art and current issues provide material for longer discussions with Spanish speakers. Language work introduces the imperfect subjunctive in simple hypothetical situations and extends use of the conditional to discuss possibilities and consequences.

  • Extend use of the conditional to express possibilities and consequences
  • Discuss options, alternatives and solutions clearly
