Spanish Proficiency Conversation Term 3

About this course

The course develops spoken Spanish through debates, presentations, discussions and collaborative tasks based on contemporary issues, current affairs and cultural topics from Spanish-speaking countries. Learners also work with a short literary text, authentic audio and video, and reading activities that support analysis, vocabulary development and comprehension. Grammar and syntax are introduced through the discussion topics, with written follow-up exercises. Preparatory reading and listening are completed before lessons so that class time can focus on commentary, language practice and pronunciation. Feedback includes tutor guidance, self-correction and pair correction.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for intermediate Spanish learners who can manage everyday situations, discuss familiar matters and express opinions with limited prompting. It involves active participation in individual, pair, group and plenary activities, together with preparation before lessons. Some ability to use past tenses and begin evaluating or justifying opinions is expected.

Before you go

• Most teaching takes place online, with two sessions held in person at Waterloo Centre.
• Learners need internet access, a laptop or computer, and access to Microsoft Teams and other online platforms.
• Lesson plans, preparatory activities, recordings and video clips are provided through Teams.
• The textbook Prisma Consolida C1 may be used as a supplementary resource; other texts and articles are provided online or by email.
