About this course
The course explores how songwriters generate ideas from everyday subjects and develop them into lyrics and music. Learners study songwriting techniques through talks and listening assignments, then apply these ideas in practical workshops and project work. Teaching includes class discussions, pair and group activities, peer reviews and vocal warm-ups. Work-in-progress songs are shared during class, giving learners opportunities to reflect on their own writing and use feedback during development.
What you'll learn
- Generate song ideas from different starting points and everyday topics
- Write and refine song lyrics
- Identify musical ideas and develop them into song material
