About this course
This course uses still life arrangements, from everyday objects to more intricate set-ups, to examine shape, proportion, light, surface texture and composition. Participants work across graphite, charcoal, ink and watercolour, with exercises in tonal contrast, colour theory, realistic mixing and brushwork. They build a sketchbook of studies while exploring how placement, spacing and angles affect balance and visual meaning. Individual guidance is provided, leading to a final drawing or painting that brings together the techniques explored.

- Apply tonal contrast, highlights and shadows to suggest volume and depth
- Compose still life arrangements using object placement, spacing and angles

The course is intended for improvers and learners with some experience of drawing. Beginners with a basic understanding of drawing are also welcomed, with individual guidance available to accommodate different levels.
