About this course
The course introduces stone carving through demonstrations, practical work and discussion, with individual guidance during activities. Participants explore carving tools and techniques using limestone, examine visual examples of other stone sculptors’ work, and receive practical health and safety guidance. The course also covers developing a small design, transferring ideas to a carving block, and maintaining tools. Ongoing stone carving and sculpture students may use the session to develop or complete projects.

The course is intended for beginners and does not require previous experience. It also accommodates ongoing stone carving students and sculpture students developing new skills. Participation includes practical work, demonstrations, discussion and individual guidance, with some lifting involved.

Before you go
- Tools and basic materials are included; materials are charged at cost after a £5 allowance.
- A pencil and notebook or sketchbook may be useful.
