Study day: Gaudí and Catalan Modernisme

About this course

This study day examines Gaudí’s career alongside the work of other Catalan Modernista architects, including Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Josep Puig i Cadafalch. It considers major buildings such as the Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, Park Güell, Palau de la Música Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau. The course also explores turn-of-the-century Barcelona, the Renaixença and Modernisme across painting and the decorative arts. Works by Santiago Rusiñol, Ramon Casas and the young Picasso are considered in relation to Barcelona’s links with wider European modernist movements. Teaching uses slide presentations and group discussion.
